The cool weather is prompting some local pools to close down early for the day due to low attendance.
Memorial Pool in Wausau closed today at 4pm due to the weather.
They normally stay open until after 7.
While the pool has remained open even though it has been almost empty, they usually cut it off at a certain point.
"We close down if it gets below 60 degrees, because we don't let people into the pool. That large difference between body temperature and the air temperature just isn't good for people." says Assistant Pool Director Frank Larson.
The cold temperatures result in a loss of wages for many lifeguards, who are sent home early when the pool closes down and don't always get a chance to make up the hours.
