Cold Weather Moves Sports Practice Indoors

The start of baseball season is always a sure sign of spring. However, with the continued winter-like weather we have been seeing across our area, players are being forced to practice indoors just two weeks before games kick off.

The cold weather is affecting coaches and players of all spring high school sports. At Wausau West High School, teams have had to compete for space inside the gym. As of now, all teams are on a rotating schedule for when they can have access to the gym. Lately, the baseball team has been practicing from 7-9 PM, something that is not popular with the team.

" You have got your school day, then you go home for a little bit and get back here and play baseball for two hours extra. Its tough, but I get it done, everyone else gets it done. " says player John Metzinger.

In an effort to get more practice time, Wausau West Baseball Coach Eric Greening says the team will travel to a baseball dome near Minneapolis for three days in order to get more practice time in.
