A small business run by a very determined woman with Down Syndrome is taking the shredding business in Minocqua by storm, and she lets her challenge fuel her way to success.
Lisa’s Shredding started in June of 2010 after Lisa and her mom, Carol, went through the Minocqua community to see if the shredding need was there.
For an affordable price, Lisa’s Shredding charges $10 an hour, picking up at no charge. But, it’s the bond between Mother and Daughter that got the business up and running.
Lisa told us, “I loved working with my mom, she’s funny. My mom and dad have down so much for me. I hope by me running my own business, I think it will help a lot of other people to go after their own dreams.”
Carol wears many hats; deliverer, advisor, chief financial officer, but most importantly the mother and backbone of support for Lisa.
Carol said, “Once she has it, you cant take it away from her. Many people are excited because they had no where to go before Lisa. Now, they’re just happy to help her succeed.”
Lisa and Carol have nearly 50 companies that use their services, and many vacationers from Illinois and southern Wisconsin come with paper to be shredded.
