Coalition Determined to End Homelessness in Marathon County

One of the biggest needs in Marathon County points to finding shelter for people in need of it. Last year alone, United Way saw that 25% of those in need of a place to stay never received it.

That’s why the first step to ending homelessness begins on February 1st with the grand opening of the warming center.

It took many months and backing from Catholic charities, along with other organizations to get the center approved. That center will help meet the needs of many people here in our community without shelter.

Christine Ellis, a big part of the Housing and Homeless Coalition said, “The coalition brought together 25 organizations in the community that said we want to be a part of the solution to end homelessness.”

If you’re looking to get involved to help stop homelessness too, there are a number of volunteer opportunities coming up.

One opportunity calls for volunteers to help when the Warming Center opens. To get more information on that opportunity call the United Way at 715-848-2927.

The other volunteer chance, called Point in Time Count, is scheduled for the last Wednesday of January and July. Volunteers are able to go out and connect with those who need help. For more information about that you can also call United Way.
