Christmas Tree Burn Held Wednesday Night in Antigo

An annual tradition in Antigo was held Wednesday night.

Every year since the early 1970s, the Antigo Optimist Club organizes a Christmas tree burning as fun way to get rid of the trees and bring everyone together.

"The founders of the club, they used to go around town and pick up all the trees and bring them down to the fairground where they had snow mobile races years ago. And they would light it," said Shane Krueger with the Optimist Club.

The Christmas Tree Burn took place at the high school. In addition to watching nearly 300 trees go up in flames, the public was invited to eat hot dogs and drink hot chocolate served by Optimist volunteers.
