MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A new U.S. Census Bureau report says income is up slightly in Wisconsin, but rates of poverty and the uninsured also rose.

The census figures show median household income in Wisconsin was about $52,000 last year, up about $120 from the previous year. Nationally, median income in 2011 was about $50,000.

The report also says 13 percent of people in Wisconsin were living in poverty, an increase of 1 percent from the previous year. The U.S. rate is higher, at 15 percent.

The State Journal says enrollment in government insurance programs, including Medicaid and Medicare, increased by 39,000 people last year, to 1.8 million. Seventy-nine thousand fewer people had private insurance.
