Thousands are converging on the shores of Lake Pacawa for Celebrate Plover, but one young man is celebrating his own personal victory at the event with the completion of his Eagle Scout Project.
Ethan Weiss of Boy Scout Troop 201 in Plover is teaming up with the local VFW post to create a flag deposit box that will be placed at the Village Transfer Station.
The wooden box was suggested by VFW member Al Tessmann who found a 20 by 30 foot garrison flag in the trash last year.
The flag was later removed and properly retired.
Weiss says he hopes the new box will accommodate a flag as large as the one that was found last year, but more importantly he hopes to educate the community.
Sponsors will be added in the next few weeks before being moved to the Transfer Station.
Other locations for proper flag retirement can be found in front of the Portage County Courthouse, as well as at VFW Post 10262.
