A bizarre pet surrendering case has employees at the South Wood County Humane Society baffled on how Ace, a 10-year-old cat, made the 1,746 mile journey from Tucson, Arizona to the shelter's door step in Wisconsin Rapids.

On Monday, employees found Ace at the shelter and scanned him for a microchip, which is standard protocol. It showed it has been inserted by a clinic in Tucson. And not only had Ace made the trip, which is 27 hours by car, he'd also managed to gain 1 lbs.

On Thursday, Ace is expected to be reunited with his family, who had practically given up hope he'd be found, since he been missing for 10 months. Ace's owner works at the Tucson International Airport and has arranged for him to fly home.

Bridget Chariton, Executive Director at SWCHS says Ace's story highlights the importance of microchipping.
