The case against two people charged with child abuse stemming from an incident last summer Wood County is moving forward.

Twenty-seven-year-old Robert Winker and 20-year-old Kurstyn Bieneman, both of Racine are facing multiple charges including child neglect and child abuse.

A criminal complaint says Bieneman and Winker were staying at a Nekoosa home on August 12, 2012 and were responsible for the care of the then eight-month-old baby. The child's grandmother took the boy to the hospital after discovering the injuries.

The Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune says medical records show the baby had fractures in his wrist, legs, ankle and ribs. He also had a swollen eye, blood in his ear canals and bruises on his face.

Monday, in Wood County Court Winker pleaded not guilty to child abuse- recklessly causing great harm, neglecting a child resulting in harm, and misdemeanor child neglect. He'll return to court in May for a pre-trial.

Bieneman is the child's mother. She had been dating Winker at the time of the alleged incident. She was also in court Monday for clerical court appearance. She pleaded not guilty to five charges, including child abuse on February 20. On the date, the condition of her bond were modified and was allowed to see her child if visitation is arranged through the child's guardian.

A criminal complaint says Winker told investigators Bieneman was physically rough with the baby. Bieneman says she saw Winker shake the child.
