Wood County dispatch has confirmed reports of a car smashing into Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids, closing the emergency room for part of Saturday.

It happened around 1:40 pm.

Lt. Brian Krzykowski with the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department tells NewsChannel 7 that a 29-year-old male driver had a medical emergency while driving and went unconscious. The vehicle struck a tree continued on, smashing into the emergency room at Riverview Hospital. Monday, authorities said no citations would be issued.

Law enforcement says parts of the emergency room are badly damaged after a water pipe burst. And damage was also done to the exterior walls and a patient waiting room.

Police say an employee from the hospital and three other people suffered minor injuries.

The driver was injured and transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Riverview is now back up and fully operational.
