With mating season upon us, male deer are chasing the females not worrying about anything else, including what’s on roads they may be crossing.
Officers say there are some ways to avoid a car versus deer accident like, don’t swerve if you see one, apply your breaks, and blow your horn. However, the most important thing is to just be alert when you’re behind the wheel.
Sergeant Robert Hartson with the Wisconsin State Patrol said, “Deer are more active now in the evening hours so obviously their moving around a little more than normal. Watch your shoulders on the road and ditches for deer.”
Deer are the third most commonly hit object in Wisconsin accidents, behind collisions with another vehicle or any other fixed object.
