With the national average for a gallon of gas well over $4.00, it may surprise you to learn there is a fuel that will cost you half as much.
In Wisconsin the cost for the gallon equivalent of natural gas is just about $2.00.
Honda makes a model of their popular Civic which runs off natural gas. Chris Schneider of La Crosse owns one. He drove it all the way from Plover to Wausau and back again on Friday, averaging 92 MPGe. Schneider only paid about a thousand dollars more than he would have paid for a car fueled fueled by gasoline.
"It's very affordable, He said. "It's very clean. It's American and it's very positive for national security because we can reduce our dependancy on foreign oil."
If you're worried about finding a place to refuel, Schneider says don't be. Natural gas pumps are popping up all over the state. In fact, in the last two years Wisconsin has moved from being in the bottom quarter of states for natural gas availability to the top quarter.
