Area Students Perform at Capitol Tree Lighting Ceremony in Madison

After weeks of rehearsing, two groups of area fourth graders finally got to show off their talent.

Students from both Medford and Stetsonville elementary schools will sang Christmas songs during the Capitol tree lighting ceremony Friday morning in Madison.

Rep. Mary Williams, who represents all of Rusk and Taylor Counties, and portions of Marathon, Clark and Sawyer Counties, gave the students a tour of the Capitol following the ceremony.

In a written statement she says, ““It was a pleasure to meet and show these talented students around our beautiful capitol. You could tell by listening that they devoted a lot of time and effort practicing these songs. I would like to thank each and everyone who came down to visit.”

The tree, a 37-foot-tall Balsam fir, was donated by Meyer's Castle Tree Farm earlier this month.

The tree farm also provided the Christmas tree for the White House in 1998.
