Investigators believe a candle may be the cause of fire at home on 4th Street in Merrill.
According to a news release, firefighters responded to 504 E. 4th St. in Merrill for a structure fire shortly after 7 am Monday morning.
When they arrived smoke was coming from the second story of the home. The fire was quickly extinguished. Smoke and water damage were contained to the second floor of the residence.
Merrill EMS personnel evaluated a patient on the scene; the patient refused transport, but was later transported by private auto to Good Samaritan Hospital in Merrill.
No other injuries were reported.
The fire is still under investigation.
