A 33-year-old Plover man remains behind bars on a$75,000 cash bond after he's accused of physically abusing his girlfriend's one-year-old daughter.
According to the criminal complaint, officers responded to a Steven Point hospital for a toddler that had injuries so severe doctors believe she risked brain injury or even death. The facility stated they couldn't treat the baby's injuries and that she'd need to be transferred to a Marshfield hospital.
David Lorenz, Jr. told police he was watching the little girl when a bookshelf fell on top of her. According to court document Lorenz changed his story several times, but later admitted he became upset after the child made a mess of her toys. According to the criminal complaint, Lorenz said he went into the child's room and “lost it”. Lorenz said he hit the girl on the head five to six time on the head with his fist. He said then the child fell forward hitting her head on a dresser. He said he then picked up her and tossed her and she hit her head on the ground. Lorenz also told police he picked the child up twice by the head during the incident.
According to the criminal complaint the child did not have a brain bleed or skull fracture.
Lorenz is charged with child abuse and obstructing an officer. He'll return to court on March 17 to learn if the case will head to trial.
