MAYVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- The body of a soldier from Mayville has returned to his hometown Friday.
Hundreds of people lined the streets of Mayville to pay their respects to 1st. Lieutenant David Johnson. A motorcade transported his flag-draped casket from the Milwaukee Airport to the small Dodge County community. The 24-year-old was killed in action in Afghanistan on Jan. 25.
Visitation is Saturday and Sunday at Mayville High School. A memorial service begins at 2 p.m. Sunday at the high school with military honors at the Veterans Memorial of Mayville.
The Fond du Lac Reporter says Johnson was a 2006 graduate of Mayville High School. He's the second Mayville graduate to die in military service in recent years. Army Spc. Michael Wendling died in Iraq in 2005.
