OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) -- A month after an Oshkosh man's decomposing body was found in his home, local officials are reminding people to keep an eye out for their elderly neighbors.

An Oshkosh Northwestern report says the number of people who die alone and remain undiscovered appears to be on the rise.

Mark Weisensel is with the Winnebago County Aging and Disability Resource Center. He says society has changed in the past decade, as younger people seem to spend more time online and less time visiting with older or disabled neighbors.

Authorities are trying to change that. Police spokesman Joe Nichols asks residents to periodically check on neighbors who are ill and live alone.

The 51-year-old Oshkosh man was found dead in his home Christmas Eve. He'd been dead two to three weeks.
