UPDATE: Sat 5:20 PM, Aug 24, 2013

The Langlade County Coroner, Larry Shadick, tells us that the remains found Thursday near Antigo may be those of a 77-year-old man missing from Antigo since February.

Law enforcement suggests he lived in the city since 2008.

Shadick says an autopsy performed on Friday doesn't show any suggestion of foul play. Right now, authorities are waiting for a forensic dentist and a review to confirm the remains.

A wallet was found at the scene. Inside were identification and money that belonged to the man.

The 77-year-old man had not been seen since February, and was never reported missing during that time.

The final results from the forensic dentist are expected within the next week. They'll withhold the name until that report comes out.

UPDATE: Fri 11:38 AM, Aug 23, 2013

The man that contacted authorities after he discovered a body near Antigo Thursday, said the body was so badly decomposed he was not immediately certain what it was.

The man was checking his tree stand around 1p.m. on Thursday when he made the discovery. He said he had been at the site in November and did not see anything then.

The man said the skull was found about 10 yards from the body.

Thursday, it was also learned a bicycle was discovered near the body. The man said it struck him as strange as the terrain in the area is not appropriate for cyclist.

The man believed the body was an adult male, based on type of footwear the body was wearing, however that information will not be verified until the body can be positively identified.

The Langlade County Sheriff's Department has released very little information, but did confirm a body had been found. The department said an autopsy would be preformed Friday in Madison.
