Wausau Police are releasing the name of the man found dead near Lake Wausau on Tuesday. Officers have identified him as Ezequias Mendez-Perez, 29.

His body was found by a roommate on the shoreline near S 11th Avenue and Flieth Street. She told officers he was last seen walking near the Cabaret Bar on Sunday evening drunk. She also said Mendez-Perez commonly used a steep walking trail near the lakeshore to walk to and from the bar.

An autopsy was done on Mendez-Perez on Wednesday and it showed that he had hypothermia and suffered a head and neck injury which appear to be accidental. The case is still under investigation pending the results of toxicology, which aren't expected for a few weeks.

Lt. Bill Kolb with the Wausau PD tells NewsChannel 7 the body found near Lake Wausau is that of a 33-year-old man. The body was was found by the man's significant other, who he lived with. She tells police they frequently walk that area together. She tells officers she last saw him yesterday and went looking for him when she didn't know where he was. She said they often walk a path down in that area, which is where he was found.

Police say the body was not found in the water, but on the rocks near it; however, officers do believe water played a part in the death and may have moved him to where he was found.

Lt. Kolb says the man's significant other told officers the man had a history of substance abuse.

The body was taken to Aspirus hospital. Lt. Kolb said more will likely be found out once a toxicology investigation is done. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
