Updated: Sat 10:56 PM, Jun 16, 2012

It’s a cross between croquet and bowling. Its called Bocce ball. Dozens of Special Olympians took part in the 3rd Annual Bocce Ball Invitational.

The game was all about getting them involved and having a good time. The game sets two teams against one another and, each team is playing for a score of 16. There are four large bocce balls for each team and a smaller one called a Polina which is rolled out first.

Whoever can place the four larger spheres closest to the Polina gets a point. The Olympians who participated in the game weren’t concerned about winning as much as they were with just having some fun. The greatest thing about the competition was that everyone is a great sport.

Rebekah Macaleese, the organizer of the even said, “It doesn’t matter what their disability is. They encourage each other to do their very best every single time.” These athletes bring the love of the game and a passion that indescribable. These Special Olympians say they’re always looking to have fun and build bonds that last longer than the game.

The regional office number is 715-848-0550.
