Blood Drive Held Wednesday in Honor of Fallen Marshfield Soldier

The BloodCenter of Wisconsin is partnering with the family of Joe Altmann this week to help patients in need at area hospitals.

Staff Sergeant Altmann graduated from Columbus High School in Marshfield. He entered the military in spring of 2005 and sadly lost his life in the line of duty when he was 27-years-old. Joe was a strong believer in blood donation and encouraged his family and friends to donate. Janice, Joe's mother says, "Blood donations make a profound difference for hospital patients and we are proud to honor Joe's memory at this blood drive."

The drive is scheduled for Wednesday, January 30 at Columbus High School in the Media Center.

The blood drive starts at 8:00 am and donors will be accepted until 1:00 pm. For an appointment call Columbus High School at (715) 387-1177. Walk-ins are welcome.

Anyone 17 or older who is in general good health and meets eligibility requirements is encouraged to donate blood. Parental consent is required for 16-year-olds to donate. The entire process takes about an hour. Donors should bring a photo ID that includes birth date. For more information, call BloodCenter at (715) 387-4990.
