Black River Falls Man Dies after Colliding with Wolf

A Black River Falls man has died after trying to avoid crashing into a wolf in Jackson County.

Authorities say the crash happened on Monday around 1 p.m. on County Highway C, east of Cloverdale Road in the Town of Albion, near Black River Falls.

An investigation shows that Dale N. Hart, 51, was driving east on County Highway C, when he went down a hill and tried negotiating a small curve.

Deputies say it appeared that the cycle tried to stop very quickly. The motorcycle hit an animal and then went into a skid, throwing Hart from the motorcycle.

A deputy found a deceased wolf close to the crash site.

Hart was not wearing a helmet.

And since most fatal auto accidents involve high rates of speed I propose we limit all cars to 45 miles an hour. While we are at it we will ban all contact sports such as boxing, AMA fighting and football, to many head injuries, and all other sports that WE deem dangerous such as sky diving and bungie jumping. After all WE are just looking out for your own safety and WE know whats best for you. Where does it stop. You have no more right to tell me I have to wear a helmet than I have to tell you you can't. And the same goes for a seatbelt. I watched several people in my family waste away with cancer. At least the man died doing something he enjoyed. We should all be that lucky.

If helmets weren't pratical or safe then why would every AMA racer and Isle of Man TT racer choose to wear one? You can argue that they are going at much higher speeds but you had mentioned helmets are only tested at 10mph....food for thought.

True DOT has low standard of testing but thats why you don't buy a $50 helm off some discount site that is just barely approved. If you don't think they help then hit your head as hard as you can on the side walk, record how you feel and damage you caused, next try same exercise while wearing a helmet and record observations. Tell me how the two test results differ. Secondly if helmets had no function then why on Earth would Superbike racers, traveling well over 10mph i might add, choose to wear them? Its not just for aerodynamics my friend. You can choose not to wear one but don't go mouthing off that they are absolutely pointless to the ones who do wear them.

In Texas you can opt. out of the helmet law and pay higher insurance for the option. People not wearing a helmet does effect me in that I have to pay higher insurance to pay for injuries to them that could have been prevented with a helmet.

Most countries and states require a helmet; however, if you choose to not wear one it is your life on the line. Pain and suffering should be decreased if the individual did not take all safety measures should another vehicle be involved.

If one chooses to be blatantly stupid by not wearing a helmet, and pay's the price for his/her "freedom"........so be it! We don't need a helmet law, we already have Darwin's law! Stupid HURTS!

Does anyone know what DOT certified means? A helmet is tested at about 10 MPH. they put the weight of the average head in it and drop it from about 8 feet, if it doesn"t crack...it passes. So lets just slow everyone down to 10 MPH and I'll wear a helmet for all you tree huggers!

I am a friend of Dales brother and a rider. I've been riding for more than 30 years and I don't wear a helmet. It's not that I don't think it may help save my life in certain situations, I myself layed one down at 80 miles an hour, but they are not a cure all. What I don't like is someone who thinks they know more than I do telling me what I have to do because they know whats best for me. It's MY life not yours. You want to wear a helmet by all means do so just leave me the hell alone.

I was hit by a teenager a few months ago who was texting while driving and ran a red light. The helmet saved my life. You morons can keep going without helmets while riding and keep on dying after having to "lay her down". Natural selection in action.

This is a relative of my wife. Head trauma did occur and this is the main reason he is no longer with us.

Chances are better for you if you have a helmet on then if you do not. I have seen some slow speed fatals that helmets would have helped in. I myself have hit a deer at 65 and walked away. I know my passenger was happy she had a helmet on as her shield kept the insides of the deer out of her eyes and she walked away too. I have been riding for over 30 years and choose to wear one. I also think a helmet law has as much reason as a seatbelt law.
