Shoppers lined up in front of stores like Walmart, Best Buy and Target as early as 2:30pm Thursday afternoon hoping to get in on door buster and Black Friday sales.
The Target store in Weston opened their doors Thursday at 9:00pm. When NewsChannel 7 stopped by at 4:00am Friday morning the store was experiencing a bit of a lull, but managers say that happens every year and has nothing to do with their decision to open their doors early. Target Manager Mel Cotrell told NewsChannel 7 that shoppers tend to come in waves. The big rush in the morning is usually filled with people looking for specific door buster items. The next wave usually begins around 6:00am or 7:00am after other stores have opened. The final wave comes in the afternoon. Mel says these are usually spur of the moment shoppers who decide to come in and see what's left.
Popular items this year include electronics, toys and sleepwear. Target staff told NewsChannel 7 that in the electronics department the XBox 360 Kinect Holiday Bundle sold out almost immediately. Another popular item, flat screen TV's. Apple products were also top sellers. Rounding out the list were NOOKS, the Wii and Nikon cameras.
In the toy department, the Furby is back and making the top toys list again this year. The Furby is joined by items like the LeapPad 2, Monster High Dolls, and Disney Princess and The Avengers toys.
If you choose to skip the madness all together, you can always do your Black Friday shopping online. Be aware, however, that there are deals specific to either online or in store purchases.
