Bill would let Locals Make Call on Wis. Pedal Pubs

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A Republican lawmaker is circulating a bill that would allow Wisconsin municipalities to decide whether people can legally drink as they ride so-called pedal pubs from bar to bar.

Pedal pubs, multiple-person bicycles that ferry riders to and from taverns, have been springing up all over the country in recent years. A Milwaukee pedal pub company called Pedal Tavern ran afoul of the city council's public safety committee last year for allowing riders to drink as they rolled from tavern to tavern. The committee warned the business state law prohibits drinking alcohol in vehicles.

Under Rep. Jeff Stone's bill, municipalities could permit pedal pub riders to drink. The measure would require pedal pub navigators to keep their blood alcohol content at .02 percent or lower, though.
