Biker Killed in Collision with Turkey

A northwoods motorcycle driver is dead following a collision with a turkey Saturday afternoon in the town of Cloverland in Vilas County.

The driver on Highway 70 near Minocqua struck a turkey, lost control, and slid into a ditch and then several trees. 67-year-old Terry Holmgren of Eagle River was pronounced dead at the scene. The Vilas County Sheriff's Department says he was not wearing a helmet and sustained severe head injuries.

This gentleman is someone's relative & loved one. Have some respect & understand it is a choice to wear a helmet. When Spirit says it's time, no helmet can save you. I've had friends die in motorcycle crashes with & without helmets on, in both cases, the helmet wouldn't & couldn't have saved them. Terry was a good man and he will be sadly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. ps I know plenty of people in the EMS community that ride motorcycles and not all of them wear helmets, just as not all of them wear seat belts - do not judge unless you live a perfect life and make perfect choices each and every time.

The EMS community has a name for bikers that don't wear helmets "organ donors"

"He then slid into a ditch and several trees."... I really doubt the lack of a helmet would have made much difference... just a bad accident

Sorry for the loss of life! No helmet... but then again, it most likely would not have done any good anyway judging by the story? My gosh... those turkeys are becoming a nuisance and should be eliminated just like the wolf except the wolves are not taking humans... yet!

  Methinks the LAST sentence says it all..... (From elsewhere on this site) A third person has died this month in Wisconsin following a motorcycle crash involving an animal. Authorities say Craig Vick, 50, of Osceola died Monday afternoon after colliding with a deer in St. Croix County. Vick hit the deer and was thrown from his cycle. Also on Monday, Dale N. Hart, 51, died after hitting a wolf with his motorcycle near Black River Falls. On Sunday, Terry Holmgren, 67, died when he struck a turkey with his motorcycle near Eagle River. NONE OF THE MEN WERE WEARING HELMETS ....
