On your average day, the Wausau airport is usually pretty tame and low-key. But if you're expecting to see such an atmosphere this weekend, think again.

Wausau's Balloon Rally and Glow event will have people of all ages watching as hot air balloons are sent high into the skies. Hand Crafted Furniture Owner Steve Woller says it's the biggest event in the area, with the best fireworks, and most unique balloon around, Wally.

Although Wally looks like a fish, it more than doubles the size of his other balloons and looks more like Nemo from the Disney film. However, since the name Nemo was trademarked, he thought he'd stick to the character theme and give the stellar balloon a similarly themed name.

Woller started the business after going for his first ride years ago, seeing that it was a great way to advertise for his business and moreover, would be a job he'd never really consider a job per se.
He says he remembers his first year hosting the rally, getting the word out and drawing in the community.

Those days are long gone now; Wausau city events has taken over the Balloon Rally and Glow event which allows Woller to focus more solely on balloon set-up and operation, something that's an intense task in and of itself.

The first launches take off tonight at 6 p.m. at the Wausau airport. Pig racing, a petting zoo, pony rides and live music will also be at the event. For more information you can visit the event's website at wausauballoonrally.com.
