Baldwin: Tighten Rules for Future Bank Settlements

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin is asking the nation's attorney general to make it harder for states to redirect money that comes from mortgage settlements against large banks.

Her comments Tuesday came after Wisconsin was awarded $140 million as part of a national mortgage settlement. Gov. Scott Walker said he plans to use about $26 million of that to help plug a state budget hole.

Baldwin criticized the plan, saying the money needs to go to those who were devastated by the housing crisis.

The Wisconsin Democrat submitted a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. In it, she asks that any future settlements that are reached include language that would prohibit states from doing what Walker is planning.

A message left with a Walker spokesman was not immediately returned.

Will their be a tea party member that is in foreclosure that will praise Walker for this stunt?

If some of the "blind following oh boy, Walker is going to stick everyone but me and cut others programs to balance the budget" can't see that this settlement was to help those hurt by bank abuse and not a hand out to the states to pass money on to the governors cronies. They better get their craniums away from Walkers lower back and smell the coffee. They are next.

I believe that Walker would remove the milk from new babies bottles if the milk was worth anything to him and his balanced/unbalanced budget. Who knows which is true?

I can not believe any one is dumb enough to ask to have this explained to them. The rich are not under foreclosure, but the poor are. Walker is planning on taking some of the money which could be used to help these poorer people. Then Walker is planning on using the money to balance a budget he said was balanced. Read the news articles. I know it is hard to believe one of Walkers news articles rather than another of his news articles. This is just more double talk from Walker. Did this answer your question? Do I need to go further?

No surprise here. When our leaders can not be trusted, rules take over. Walker just seems to move from one problem to another. He crushes one group after another. Only the rich survive!

When leaders can not be trusted, laws take over! Walker robbed the poor to help himself and the rich! I know the people who did contibute to his campaign will need the tax dollar. Nothing like hitting some one when they are down and out. Walker you make us so proud!!!!

No Jim isn't,you are. This was not the poor's money. If they can afford to pay for a house then they don't get one.

Jim & Real, don't you understand? This money was set to help those who are in or at foreclosure. It is from banks that caused this to happen. Not a handout. It it not to take and use for whatever. Sometimes people like you two have a blank space between you ears. The money was set for a specific purpose! I am amazed that some of you can not understand. Maybe you one on one. DUMB!

It doesn't pay to respond to trolls. They just highlight their ignorance with a thicker blindfold.

So it is difficult for the Federal government to do good? True, because when they try to do good, some dirt bag redirects the money...and as much of Walkers efforts have gone to "strengthen" business, I guess that means the shortfall is to shovel money to businesses that he benefited, resulting in the shortfall.
