UPDATE: Oct. 23, 2013 at 5:54 p.m.

A deputy chief with the Rib Mountain Fire Department says after speaking with employees, it appears a broken natural gas line is to blame for a fire that destroyed the Wendy's restaurant.

John Lauer says the gas line was attached to a pressure cooker, but when employees pulled the cooker out to clean it, the gas line was pulled off. It caused a leak. Lauer says employees got out of the building and called their general manager. The manager told them how to shut the gas off. When an employee went back inside to do that, something ignited the fire. Lauer says a fire extinguisher was used to try and put the fire out. Unfortunately, the restaurant is a total loss. No one was hurt.

Firefighters say the Wendy's restaurant in Rib Mountain is a total loss after a fire Thursday night.

There were an undisclosed number of employees in the building at the time, but all got out unharmed.

The fire was reported at about 10:30pm.

The deputy fire chief from Rib Mountain says the flames started in the kitchen, but it's unknown at this point exactly what cause it.

Multiple departments were called to the scene. At one point, three ladder trucks were spraying water on the building.

No firefighters were injured fighting the fire.
