The owner of a barn that collapsed Thursday night northwest of Wausau tells NewsChannel 7 he believes snow is the reason for causing the roof to cave in.

Tom Witter says two cows will have to be euthanized because of the collapse.

Witter says they're spending the day m1oving the cows that were inside the part of the barn that collapsed to their heifer barn. Then, they're moving heifers to another farm that's down the road.

The barn is located at the intersection of County Highway U and Overlook Drive in the Town of Maine.

Witter says he also lost a skid steer, feeders and a conveyor system.

UPDATE: Thurs 9:45 PM, Feb. 21, 2014

Owner Tom Witter tells NewsChannel 7 there were 30 cows in the part of the barn that collapsed. One suffered a broken leg and will have to be euthanized. They rest they managed to get out of the building.

No humans were hurt.

He says a skid steer, conveyor and feeder system were also destroyed when the building went down.

Witter says they did remove a bunch of snow from the building's roof over the last few days.

He says he's not sure if they will rebuild.

ORIGINAL STORY: Thurs 7:23 PM, Feb. 21, 2014

Emergency crews are on the scene of a barn collapse in the Town of Maine, just northwest of Wausau.

They were paged around 7:00 p.m. Thursday (2/20/14) to The Witter farm complex at the intersection of Hwy. U and Overlook Drive, just west of Hwy. 51.

Part of the complex the appears to be a pole shed went down.

There is no word on whether any animals were inside the building at the time.
