Press Release- Complaints are rolling into the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau about Furniture Deals & Steals, a furniture company with seven locations in Brookfield, Green Bay, Sheboygan, Fort Atkinson, Madison, Salem and Baraboo. The stores abruptly closed.
Since June 9th, the BBB has received 36 complaints against the company from consumers throughout the state. The consumers say they’ve ordered furniture from the company as early as February 2011 and have yet to receive their orders. Some consumers are owed as much as $1,400.
Complainants tell the BBB that they went to some of the stores this week to find out the status of their orders, only to see the store closed with a sign that reads “closed for the holiday.” Calls from the BBB to all of the store locations, the corporate offices and the owner have not been returned.
If you are a customer of Furniture Deals & Steals, the Wisconsin BBB offers this advice:
If you paid for the merchandise via credit card, write to your credit card company to dispute the charges. Please note that consumers have a limited time to do this, and time limits vary by company.
File a complaint with the Wisconsin BBB at www.wisconsin.bbb.org. If the store is closed, you are still owed the product for which you paid. Complaints filed with the BBB will follow the store if it should re-open under a new name.
As of today, the store has not filed for bankruptcy. However, if it does file, consumers will have to file a claim with the bankruptcy court administering the process—the deadline is typically 90 days after the filing date. More information on filing a claim, including downloadable forms, is available online at www.uscourts.gov.
