The last time Amherst High School was in Madison on state championship weekend was four months ago. And they returned with the hardware as champions in Divison 4 football.
Tonight a Falcons team filled with many of the same names that know what the gold feels like was hoping for some more Mad Town magic. But a poor night on both ends of the floor told a different story.
It came down to shooting in Thursday nights Divison 4 state semifinal game between Amherst and Auburndale.
The Apaches shot 64.3 percent from the field in the Kohl Center, a new Division 4 tournament record.
And Senior Austin Hawkins set a tournament record of his own, going 10/11 from the field.
The Falcons fell behind early and never were able to come back. They finish their season 22-4.
Auburndale will now seek its first state title since 2000. They'll face Dominican on Saturday.
