Update 2/28: Auburndale Schools Superintendent Gerald Eichman says 32% of students were absent from the high school on Thursday. 55% were absent from the elementary school.

Wood county sheriff's deputies say their investigation shows the report of a student taking a gun to school Thursday was unfounded.
But the district superintendent made the decision not to penalize kids who miss class, anyway.
Sgt. John Hiller tells NewsChannel 7 they received reports an Auburndale High School student was going to take a gun to school.
They investigated and determined the report was false.
After talking with the student, Hiller says they decided he didn't have means to get a weapon.
But, he says there will be an increased law enforcement presence tomorrow.
Not in the school itself, but in the area.
The school decided to let parents keep their children home from school without penalty.
