A Vilas County Judge has been assigned to hear furthering proceedings in the case of a Merrill woman charged with hiring someone to kill her fiancé. The alleged plot was foiled when the man contacted police.

Jessica Strom's next court appearance is scheduled to be a review the results of a competency exam.

That hearing has been scheduled for May 16.

The attorney for the Merrill woman accused of trying to hire a hit man to kill her fiance wants her to undergo a mental competency exam.

That motion and motions for a new judge to the hear the case and suppression of some evidence and statements were filed this week, according to online court records.

Prosecutors say 33-year-old Jessica Strom offered money and sex to a former criminal justice classmate to kill her fiancé.

He went to the police instead.

Strom is jailed on a $250,000 cash bond.
