Assumption was outshot by Lake Country Lutheran, but still came out victorious in a Division 4 state semifinal at the WIAA Soccer Tournament.
The Royals managed only 1 shot on goal, compared to 13 for LCL, and was out shot overall 25-4. But Royals keeper Gena Grundhoffer stopped everything to keep her team in it.
After regulation and two overtimes they went to a shootout in Milwaukee.
LCL was first up, and Grundhoffer poked it away for the only save in the shootout. Sadie Zurfluh finished off a 5-4 shootout victory to send Assumption to the state title game Saturday morning.
The Royals will meet New Holstein at 9 a.m.
