MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A Democratic member of the Ashland City Council says she intends to run against Republican U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy next year.
Kelly Westlund announced Monday that she will launch her campaign on Tuesday with a news conference in Wausau. Westlund has been a member of the city council for nearly two years but has no other political experience.
Duffy was first elected to represent the 7th Congressional District in 2010 and re-elected by a 12-point margin in 2012. He also worked eight years as a district attorney and appeared on MTV's "The Real World" in the 1990s.
Duffy had $685,000 cash on hand through the end of September.
Wisconsin Republican Party executive director Joe Fadness says Westlund "would be nothing more than a blank check for Barack Obama."
