The Fix Is In is a team of dedicated animals lovers that spay and neuter your pets at a low cost. The organization was found in 2009 with a goal. "Provide low-cost spay and neuter services to pet owners," said Karla Ortman, the Founder.
She says they've spayed or neutered hundreds of animals so far and she does it because there's a big need. "Just because of the over population of pets in the area - there are a lot of homeless pets that end up in humane socieites that may or may not get adopted." They also want to make sure you're a responsible pet owner too. "They want to have their pets, they love their pets... but they're not always able to afford to have them spayed or neutered and often end up with unwanted litters of kittens or puppies and that's an additional hardship on the community as well," said Ortman.
Here's how it works, a team of four, a veterinarian, certified vet-tech, veterinary assistant, and clinic manager travel throughout Northcentral Wisconsin - setting up what they call a temporary hospital. They then spay or neuter your animals, and at the end of the day pack everything back up and head home. While it's no doubt surely a lot of work, Ortman says it's a win-win for everyone - including you, your pet and the community too.
If you're still on the fence about fixing your animal, here's a few things that may change your mind. Doing so, obviously cuts down on unwanted litters, eliminates certain behaviors and also, "There's medical advantages too, you eliminate certain kinds of cancers, but pets live 40% longer and healthier lives by being spayed or neutered," says Ortman.
