Appleton Man Convicted of Killing mother Gets Life

APPLETON, Wis. (AP) -- An Appleton man has been sentenced to life in prison after a jury convicted him of killing his mother while on a fishing trip.

Thirty-five-year-old Randal Rosenthal was convicted in November of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of 52-year-old Kathleen Remter. He was sentenced Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Rosenthal killed Remter to collect her $586,000 life insurance policy. She was found dead in the Fox River in July 2011.
Investigators say she had been shot in the back of the head.

Rosenthal claimed his mother was fine when he last saw her after they went fishing in Buchanan.

WLUK-TV reports Rosenthal won't be eligible for parole until 2061.
