Homes Condemned Over Toxic Mold At Antigo Trailer Park

Trailer Park Mold

Trailer Park Concerns

Some Antigo residents will have a rough Christmas. And their new year will not start off well either -- they may find themselves homeless.

Several residents in the Forest Ave Mobile Home Court have mold in their trailers. Some of the trailers have been condemned by the Langlade County Health Department. Residents have thirty days to get out and find a new place to live.

"I've been very sick...coughing, runny nose, [I'm] congested at all times," says Louise Tiegs, who had her trailer condemned. But Tiegs has another problem, and that has to do with the owner of the trailer park, Randy Bouche.

"Randy doesn't take care of anything," said Tiegs. "I asked him on Wednesday to take care of the mold in his trailer and he said 'get out of [the] trailer'."

The mold is just the tip of the iceberg. And other residents agreed with Tiegs -- they say Bouche has not helped with their other issues.

Kerry Riley-Weber said she had an issue with her electrical box that Bouche should have paid for because it was off her property.

"The whole thing cost me $200 because Randy would not pay for his responsibility," she said.

The manager at another trailer park Bouche owns in Kronenwetter also has her frustrations.

"You think you have a small task, oh no, nothing is a small task" said Amy Born. "Take the toilet off and put a new one on? No, because then you got all the rot from it leaking throughout the years. It's horrible."

Residents say they've had their share of plumbing issues as well. While we were there, one resident discovered her pipes had frozen.

Tiegs said the trailer park is also dangerous.

"It's full of ice here all the time...you can fall...there's elderly people here," she explained.

These residents say Mr. Bouche should take responsibilty for the issues. However, Mr. Bouche had no comment.

So who should really take responsibility for the mold, the trailer owners or the park owner? I agree with Jay, the ones who can least afford it are the ones who unfortunately suffer. Mold is a huge problem and can often not be the fault of the tenants. I think the park owner should bring in a company like Decon Pro Green to clean it all up once and for all. They'll get rid of all the mold and restore things to a safe level. Then, at that point, it would be agreed that the tenants have to maintain their own properties and take preventive actions to ensure these problems don't arise again.

I used to work for Mr. Bouche at the Kronenwetter park, very nice park but needed a lot of work on some of the homes. Mr. Bouche is having a hard time keeping up financially with some of the work and can't get to it all right away. I do agree that mold is a very important concern and should be tackled first and foremost before anything else but electrical, frozen pipes, and rotting floorboards are a concern also. I am not defending Mr. Bouche, I am just saying I know kindof where he is coming from so I can see both sides of the fence

I come to visit my mom once a month and ive seen even worse than what the people have said, Such as in the summer last year the slumlord tore the driveways up and attempted to repair the water lines amd hit a natural gas line and let it seep gas out for almost 2 hrs before calling the gas company. Then a little time later he hit a sewer line and just let it run out everywhere.

If you can't afford to keep up the trailers and the trailer park, maybe you should consider selling it Randy, I think the guy should have to pay all doctor and hospital costs for all who have gotten sick. It is slumlords like him that should be sued for every penny he has!

I see you didn't care to post what I said about landlords & rental properties over here in Antigo, that's fine, the local newspaper didn't feel people getting kicked out of their homes in the middle of winter wasn't newsworthy either. That's how Antigo rolls...WE report what WE want you to know. Same goes for the police & sheriff's departments.

There is a point when it doesn't make sense to fix a home but condemn it. There are many factors on why a home becomes unliveable and can be contributed to the landlord and the renter. From what I see the places should be hauled out...not fixed. Find another place to rent.

A story like this in Antigo does not surprise me. Landloards over here want your rent check on time every time but when it comes time to fix things... well that's another story. There is a couple good ones out there but the majority just want their money and leave them alone. On top of that, you should see some of the "properties" that are for rent over here privately...AMAZING!!

In situations like this it seems the ones who can least afford it, are the ones hurt the most.

There is a perfect example of a slumlord maybe they should sue?
