UPDATE: Victims in Portage Co. Motorcycle Crash ID'ed

The Portage County Sheriff's Department has released new information about the cause of crash that killed two people Monday night.

Investigators say a woman was pulling into a driveway when she turned in front of a motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the minivan's passenger side door. The driver and his passenger were ejected.

The motorcycle driver, 21-year-old Alexander Reeder, of Wisconsin Rapids and his 20-year-old passenger, Katherine Axlen of Mukwonago, died as result of their injuries. Both were wearing helmets.

Reeder and Axlen were both seniors at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point.

The Portage County Sheriff's Department is reminding everyone that with the warmer weather motorists should expect to see more motorcycle, bicycles and pedestrians.

The Wisconsin DOT says all lanes of State Hwy 66 are now clear and open.

Two people are dead following a crash between a vehicle and a motorcycle in the Town of Linwood in Portage County.

According to a press release from the Portage County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened around 4:45 p.m. Monday on State Highway 66 at County Highway PP.

Two of the people involved in the crash were pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is being investigated at this time.

State Highway 66 remains closed between County Highway C and County Highway II. The roadway is not anticipated to be open for the next several hours.

Traffic is being re-routed, but the area should be avoided.
No further information is being released at this time.

Both lanes of Highway 66 at County Road PP are closed due to an accident. The crash occurred just before 5 p.m. Monday night.

The road is expected to remain closed for two hours.

The Portage County Dispatch Center said no further information would be released at this time.

Eastbound traffic will be detoured north on County II to County PP, Westbound on County PP to County II, northbound on County II to County C, eastbound on County C back to WIS 66.

Westbound drivers are asked to reverse these directions.
