Local law enforcement is cracking down on underage drinking in our community, and they are using compliance checks to do it.
The Rothschild Police Department gave out three citations for alcohol compliance violations in January. While that may not seem like a lot the Chief of Police said it is disappointing.
Employees at The Bar of Wausau, Coral Lanes, and the Green Mill were cited on January 21st. Police send an underage person into the establishment with their underage ID, supervised by someone from the Police Department.
If that person is served alcohol, the officer gives the employee a citation.
"If we didn't have to issue any citations, that's the goal," said Chief of Police, Jeremy Hunt, "we want education and compliance, that's what we're trying to gain out of these alcohol compliance checks."
In Rothschild, citation are written to workers, not businesses. But when those businesses have their liquor licenses renewed, the number of violations their workers receive can be taken into consideration.
