UPDATE: All Lanes Re-opened on Hwy. 51

US-51 is now open following a motorcycle accident earlier in the day.

According to a press release from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department, around 1:55pm a motorcycle crash was reported on US-51 near the 219 mile marker.

Witnesses reported that the motorcycle was traveling northbound when 86-year-old Leonard Benson of Merrill lost control of his motorcycle.

The driver was thrown from the vehicle, and both the bike and Benson ended up in the median.

He was treated on scene by a number of off duty medical personal that happened to witness the crash. A Medivac helicopter from Aspirus Hospital in Wausau responded to the scene. Benson was transported to Aspirus Hospital via helicopter, and is said to be in critical condition.

Benson was wearing a helmet. The crash is still being investigated.
