The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department is investigating a vehicle versus ATV crash that sent one person to the hospital Friday afternoon.
The Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at about 2:40 PM reporting a crash between a car and ATV. The accident happened on Heineman Road east of Kelly lane in the Township of Schley.
An initial investigation found the ATV was traveling eastbound on Heineman Road at a high rate of speed. The car, driven by 20-year old Shane A. Kanapka, was traveling westbound. Due to a hill in the road, the Kanapka could not see the ATV coming. Kanapka attempted to turn into a driveway on the south side of the road, turning in front of the ATV. the ATV hit the car. The impact threw the driver of the ATV, 37-year-old Jeffrey Arseneau, from the ATV. The ATV rolled several times and started on fire.
Arseneau was flown to Aspirus Hospital for his injuries. Kanapka received minor cuts from the airbags deploying. Arseneau was wearing a helmet.
The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
