A Green and Gold Celebration

The staff at the T.B. Scott Free Library are preparing for what just might be the best day of the year and we're not talking about Christmas. Next Wednesday is Aaron Rodgers Day, falling on the date 12-12-12. In honor of Green Bay's star quarterback, the Merrill library is turning it's annual crafting party green and gold.

"Many of us are big Packer fans. So when we heard the legislature declared 12-12-12 to be Aaron Rodgers Day, the Youth Services staff picked up on that and decided to combine it with our craft celebration," head of Youth Services at the T.B. Scott Free Library, Linda Schuster, told NewsChannel 7.

Cheesehead headbands, green and gold mittens and football ornaments are just some of the crafts people can look forward too. And you don't have to be a kid, or even a Packer fan, to get involved.

"We'd love you to wear green and gold when you come to our celebration. But, if you're not a Packer fan, you're still welcome," Schuster said.

The crafting tables will be open all weekend long during the library's regular operating hours.

In addition to crafting, the library will also host a scavenger hunt for third through fifth graders this Friday from 3:30pm until 4:45pm. Kids favorite green and gold storybook characters, like Shrek and Goldilocks, will be on hand to help them solve the mystery of who stole the Cheesehead.

Organizers hope the event will encourage kids to read more and so far it seems to be working.

"He, right away, said 'Mom, Packers!' and then saw the books sitting out and asked if he could take one home and so he picked one out. I let them each take one," mom of two Sarah Stolarczyk said of her 4 year old son Raymond.
