Doctors say osteoporosis is not just a disease that women should worry about, but men are at risk too.

They say bone loss happens to everyone as they age, it's just more prevalent in women.

Men are more likely to get fractures resulting from bone loss, than have heart attacks, strokes or prostate cancer.

They recommend older men have scans every two years to monitor their bone loss.

"Men over the age of 70 should be screened for bone mineral density, but if they're over 50 but under 70, they should be screen if they have risk factors," says Aspirus doctor, Larry Gordon, D.O.

Those risk factors include family history of osteoporosis, smoking, and shrinking height.

He says to prevent osteoporosis, maintain a diet with plenty of calcium and Vitamin D, and incorporate weight bearing exercise into your daily routine.
