Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School sustained some significant damage in Tuesday’s storms.
School District Superintendent Garrett Rogowski tells NewsChannel 7 the roof peeled off over a portion of the gym and commons area. Inside the school, a large section of the gym floor is starting to warp because of water damage. There is also damage to tiling in the school and a number of computers, as well as the school’s greenhouse.
He says they don’t have a dollar estimate of the damage yet, but claims adjusters will be assessing the damage tonight.
There were just a few people in the school when the storm hit, and no one was hurt.
Currently, there are contractors putting a temporary fix on the roof in order to prevent further damage.
Rogowski says summer camp and open gym schedules at the school will need to be adjusted while repairs are completed.
NewsChannel 7 has a crew in Wittenberg and will have more information when it’s available.
