KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) -- A teen driver gave a thumbs up sign as he was wheeled away on a stretcher after his car collided with a city bus in Kenosha and crashed into a tree, leaving the car tipped on its side with him trapped inside.
Authorities say the roots of the toppled tree stopped the bus from crashing further into the car driven by 17-year-old Jorian Williams.
The accident happened as he and other students left Kenosha Bradford High School yesterday afternoon.
School Superintendent Joseph Mangi says the bus with about 45 passengers was a shuttle taking students home from Bradford.
He says everyone on the bus was accounted for, and emergency personnel told him there were no major injuries among them.
Williams was reported to be conscious and in stable condition while being cut out of the car.
He then was flown to a hospital for treatment.
