Wausau Police now have four people in custody and are still looking for the gunman who opened fire in a quiet Wausau neighborhood Sunday night.
Police say it was a gang member that opened fire in front of the 400 block of North 2nd Avenue in Wausau around 9PM.
Two cars, one block and one white Honda pulled up to a cookout or party taking place in the front yard. Words were exchanged and then suddenly one man began shooting into the crowd. Two people were shot in the leg. A 17 year old female and a 16 year old male. The Wausau Police Chief says this shooting was gang related.
One of the bullets hit the house of Kathy Shankwitz who lives next door. She and a 12 year old girl were standing just on the other side of the wall. Kathy Shankwitz says, "When I came over a little further and found out the bullet was right here and I was so lucky because if it would have went all the way through, I would have been hit."
Both vehicles involved fled the scene. Police in Rothschild did track down the blacck Honda and took 4 people into custody. Detectives are still looking for the white Honda and the gunman who opened fire.
Police are not releasing the condition of the two patients but the Police Chief says one of the wounds was serious.
