FRANZEN, Wis. (AP) -- A former Republican legislator from Wittenberg was killed when his car went off the road and flipped over.
The Marathon County Sheriff's Department says former Representative Raymond Omernick was ejected from his vehicle and died Wednesday on Highway 49.
Lieutenant Frank Hanousek says a second car rolled over while trying to avoid the crash, but the 24-year-old driver was not hurt.
The 84-year-old was elected to the state Assembly in 1978, defeating incumbent Democrat Laurence Day, according to the Wisconsin Blue Book.
He lost a September 1980 primary to John McEwen and then lost the November 1980 election in which he ran as a write-in candidate.
