It may be the middle of summer, but thousands of students in Stevens Point are getting ready for a week of study to better their musical skills.
Around 2,500 students, their parents and teachers are in point for this week's American Suzuki Institute classes.
Outside of Japan it's the largest Suzuki summer school.
The Suzuki Institute teaches kids how to play an instrument in much the same way kids learn to talk.
"So just like when you're learning a language you learn to speak first and then you learn to read," said Dee Martz, American Suzuki Institute Director. "Same with music, when you learn it using the Suzuki method."
Along with developing musical skills, Martz says learning an instrument at a young age can help kids excel in other areas of learning like reading and math.
