Animal advocates are asking parents not to buy their children baby chicks or bunnies this Easter.
The director of the Humane Society of Marathon County says about a dozen bunnies were surrendered to the shelter last Easter, and they would like to see none given up this year.
She says parents should consider giving their kids stuffed animals instead.
"And maybe a book about a bunny there are a lot of great children's books to introduce them to pets and it's a good time when kids are asking to have a bunny to sit down and teach what the humane society does," says Mary Kirlin.
She says many people often don't realize a cute bunny grows up to be a big rabbit, and chicks become chickens and roosters.
